Pinguicuila pachuca, Sundew Carniverous plant

When my AV club was having a sale at the annual Horticulture Reunion, I visited another club's sales across the alley and bought a carnivorous plant, Pinguicuila pachuca from the Sundew family.

It has nice flat green leaves that exude a sticky substance and puts out...

Christmas Violets

Playing bingo made me realize there are many violets named for the Christmas/winter holiday. So I started thinking about what a Christmas violet would look like and what it would be named, if I could hybridize one. Have you ever thought about what "your" violet would look like? We talked about smells for violets - so I want to know what you would name yours!

Christmas Traditions

I bet most of us have formed Christmas traditons that have changed somewhat because of our ages and/or distance from family. When I grew up, families and extended families lived near each other. Hello everyone. I just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I am leaving for Texas on Wednesday morning and will be gone for a month. I did repot my violets and chiritas and bagged most in large and extra large zip lock bags This should hold them for a month until I return. I'm trying to save some work for my husband.

Tomorrow, I'll do the greenhouse, wash clothes, pack and get my hair done. Busy, busy.

Could someone please give me some info on P. A. Longtin?
I got this violet a couple of years ago....and it has sat here and done nothing.
Now that I've changed the lights, it's another one that has become a very happy plant. It's growing, it's variegation has returned, and it's starting to bloom.

Potting Up

When you have potted a plantlet in say a 2 inch pot, when do you pot up? Most resources say when the plant is three times the size of the pot, time to get a new house. However, most commercially available pots go from 2 to 4 inches - so it seems like too much of a leap. One supplier I looked at sells a range of pot sizes, but they are white and I read that white pots are not favored as they allow too much light to affect the roots of the violet.

What is the proper name of this variety by George McDonald?
I'm really confused. I've notice that on the Russian sites people write Mac's Rouge Rouge and describe flowers as dark red and sometimes as red with dark almost black fantasy. I asked person from whom I've got leaf and she told me that its name is Mac's Rouge Rouge but on the pot she has Mac's Rouge...

HOW MUCH HAVE YOU PAID FOR A VIOLET?
I am wondering what was the most you have paid for a variety that you simply must have!

I once paid $8.50 for a starter on Ebay.... guess that is about as 'spendy' as I have gotten!

(Notice, I didn't ask: how much have you spent in one year for violets? !!!!)

I'm sure we've all had one....or several AV's with crooked necks.....so......

What do you do with a violet that grows crooked? No matter how many times you repot and reshape.....it still makes more leaves on one side and heads for the edge of the pot!! Grrrrrrrr........

Do you judge it as one that has a 'poor growth habit'....and toss it out?
Or do you keep on fighting with it for whatever reason you have for...
