phoebesviolets, did you ever try uploading a photo... that you had resized to a smaller size than the original size your camera took???
Most of our digital cameras take a photo that is quite large in size... measured in MBs.
I think Yuku and many other online forums will not take such a large size.
Photo Bucket will let you upload a large size, but they generally resize it when it is in their albums.
Also, remember: uploading a large photo, measured in MBs or a similar large size, may take up to an hour, or more, if you are on dial up as I am... but less if you are on DSL or broadband.

Resizing reduces the number of pixels in a picture.. making it smaller. It is similar to having a 110 film negative which is smaller than a 35 mm negative.

Say you have a photo of a person. On a large MB jpg file, as your camera took it... the area that makes up the pupil of one eye of the person may include say, 800 little bits of information (pixels). When the camera captured the image, it took 800 bits of different colors, etc. to make up the reflections, depth of eye, etc. The whole picture may be made up of 8,000 pixels. But the pupil part has 800 pixels.

When you resize the photo and make it smaller, you are reducing the number pixels that make up the entire photo, so the area of the pupil in the eye will contain say, 400 little bits of information (pixels). You have made the photo one half the size of the original.

So where there may have been 80 of blue, 700 pixels of black, and 20 pixels of grey in the big photo, the resized photo will have approximately 40 pixels of blue, 350 pixels of black and 10 pixels of grey.

If you make the photo even smaller... reducing the number of pixels to say 200, there would be approx 20 pixels of blue, 175 pixels of black, and 5 pixels of grey.

The fewer pixels that need to be uploaded from your computer to the photo album, the quicker it will go. When you use a smaller photo when posting a message, it will show up in the message quicker for all of us who read it.

On computer things, a medium sized photo (say from 1000 to 800 on one side, or as small as 400 to 300 on one side) shows up as well, or better, than a very, very large photo.
You won't notice much or any decrease in quality of your resized smaller photos on the internet photo albums, etc.
But when you want to print your digital photos on paper, you will want to use the larger photos that your camera originally took.

There are photo software programs to resize your photos.
Photo Bucket will let you check the option to resize your photos as you upload them.
There are several online websites that will resize your photos... here is one that Yuku has recommended. I have not used it, but it would be worth trying.
